Philippines

Description - we traveled to the Philippines, along with the Turtle Survival Alliance, to meet with Sabine Schoppe of the Katala Foundation. They wanted to redesign their facility to better accommodate the Philippine pond turtles (Siebenrockiella leytensis) they received during a confiscation. So they called in the experts.

This highly specialized species of turtle is nocturnal and spends the day out of the water, in burrows along the water's edge. They are a shade loving species and cannot tolerate high water temperatures.
